Regaine Review
Regaine is a hair loss treatment product with formulas for both men and women. Usually not marketed in the United States, Regaine can be found in countries like Great Britain, where it is produced, as well as other European countries and Australia. Similar to Rogaine, Regaine’s active ingredient is minoxidil in either 2% or 5% concentrations. Women should use only the 2% or less concentration, while men may use the ”extra strength” 5% doses.
Regaine is a topical product used as a foam or gel. The active ingredient, minoxidil, helps stimulate blood flow and circulation to the scalp. The increased blood flow brings nutrients to the scalp, which inhibits the impact of DHT, a primary cause for genetic hair loss. DHT causes hair follicles to shrink and ultimately stop producing hair. With minoxidil blocking the impact of DHT, the hair continues to grow at its normal cycle and pace, and it may even grow thicker.
Regaine is best used as a hair loss prevention product, instead of one that will trigger re-growth of lost hair. While most users enjoy the benefits of preventing further hair loss, a smaller group of users do experience re-growth in some hair follicles.
Benefits of Regaine
Four out of five users of Regaine experience a cessation in further hair loss. Some users do experience hair re-growth in thinning areas. Most users experience thicker hair and no further hair loss within 4 months. Some users see effects after about 8 weeks.
Method of Treatment
Regaine is easy to use. The individual simply applys the foam or gel to the hair and massages it into the scalp. The treatment must be used twice daily and continued for as long as the individual wishes to prevent further hair loss. After treatment is stopped, the natural progression of hair loss will continue in the areas predisposed to genetic hair loss.
Costs of Regaine
Costs for Regaine are about $80 dollars for a bottle of 2% minoxidil, while the 5% version generally costs a little more. Regaine is sold as Rogaine in America and is cheaper than the imported European brand.
Side Effects
The use of minoxidil on the scalp may cause itchiness, dryness, or redness. In much fewer cases, the active ingredients may cause chest pain, faster heart rate, or dizziness, and users who experience these symptoms should consult a doctor.
